What Is It: A phishing scam that steals money and/or information

What Are They After: In this scam, you come back to your parked vehicle to find a parking ticket; this may also come about as an email that appears to originate from your local law enforcement agency, informing you of your “overdue ticket.”

Unfortunately, the phony ticket or email leads to a fake website where the scammers are waiting to steal your payment and your personal information.

How Can You Avoid It:

• If you pay any ticket or fine online, verify the website before proceeding.
• Any legitimate ticket will have a case number or citation number, and will not require outrageous amounts of personal information.
• When in doubt, contact your law enforcement agency and verify the fine.
