Facebook Customer Service Scam

Date: 02/27/2017

Facebook will never charge you for support.

Who Is It Targeting: Social media users

What Is It: Gift card scam using a spoofed phone number, website

What Are They After: Users who search online for “Facebook customer service” are putting themselves at risk. Law enforcements agencies have alerted the public that this is a highly popular search term, and therefore scammers have set up fake websites that appear to provide solutions.

When social media users call the fake phone numbers for help, scammers inform them that their issues can be resolved for a fee. In many of the reported cases, victims were told to make payment to Facebook customer service in the form of prepaid gift cards.

How Can You Avoid It:

  • Only use the verified customer service contact information.
  • Never, ever make a payment for any service with a gift card if you’re told that it’s the only accepted form of payment.
