Who Is It Targeting: Customers

What Is It: An imposter scam that creates fake contact information for a well-known business

What Are They After: This scam, reported to the BBB, involves a customer who contacted Netflix about problems with his account. He Googled the company for contact information and got an 800 number. Unfortunately, it was a scam, and the customer service rep he spoke with took his credentials and gained access to his computer.

How Can You Avoid It:

  • Only use trusted, verified sources to contact a place of business
  • Be cautious about providing personal information or access to your computer to another party, even if you’re the one who contacted them.
