What Is It: A programed popup that appears if an app crashes in Windows

What Are They After: It’s one of the annoyances of using newfangled app technology: apps can just crash from time to time. You’re using it when suddenly it just closes and you’re back at your Windows home screen.

A new scam, though, sends a malicious popup message to your computer if it detects that an app has crashed. It tells you there’s something wrong with your computer and that you must call the phone number on your screen immediately.

How Can You Avoid It:

• Apps can just crash due to their programing, it doesn’t mean your computer is infected.
• Never click a link or call a phone number from a popup that tells you your computer is infected.
• If you think you might have installed a virus, contact your antivirus software company directly.
