What Is It

Door-to-door sales or home repair scams

What Are They After

With all the high-tech tools at criminals’ disposal, you might think that old-fashioned methods of stealing money and identities are less of a threat. However, new warnings have surfaced about door-to-door sales scams. People pop up on your doorstep, offer home repairs, unwarranted upgrades, items for sale, subscription services and utilities, and more.

How Can You Avoid It

  • Some cold call salesmen may be the real deal, but be wary of anyone who approaches you without contacting you first.
  • Never, give a door-to-door salesman your identifying information or money without receiving the product.
  • For home repairs, be sure to get a list of references from the salesman or contractor, as well as a written price quote up front.
